One of the most decorated captains of all time in Trent Cotchin announced he is stepping down from the role ahead of the 2022 season, leaving the Tigers to commence the search for their next leader. Richmond has a number of choices for their future captain and there are some other AFL clubs that have obvious successors. That isn’t the case for every team though, with plenty of surprise candidates in line to one day take over the top job.

Regardless of the result vs. Dallas, it’s hardly a ludicrous statement to choose the Tampa Bay Buccaneers to repeat as Super Bowl champions. However, some spicier takes like a Jalen Hurts breakout party or the Ravens missing from postseason action might be met with more scepticism.

When you pick your initial AFL Fantasy team for the season, every coach backs in a few ‘premium’ big-name players who they hope they can trust week in, week out to get the job done. With the addition of the play-in spots to this year’s NBA postseason, there won’t be as many teams that are looking to sell before the trade deadline arrives. However, with March 25th slowly approaching, the league’s rumour mill is starting to churn much faster, with under the radar role players potentially the flavour of this trade season. Don’t expect to find Bradley Beal or DeMar DeRozan’s names on this list, but below are 10 candidates who are most likely to find a new home as the trade action ramps up.
When we see Tom Brady hoisting the Lombardi trophy, NFL fans know it’s time to focus on the offseason. Leaguewide, there is a lot of uncertainty at the quarterback position with one blockbuster trade already in the books and the potential for a lot more turnover under center. Not all teams will be looking to make a change at QB though — so as we prep for a chaotic offseason, let’s see just how safe your team’s quarterback is ahead of the 2021 season.
It’s a shame we only have one Most Valuable Player trophy to hand out annually, with a growing number of stars sticking their hands up as threats in this award race. Some of their claims are more legitimate than others and with a third of the season now in the books, a portion of the league’s premier talents are doing their best to separate themselves from the rest of the field. Four new players crack the top-10 after indifferent starts to the season — proving that we’re going to in for a tight MVP race over the entire season.
524 games in the books, one to go. The Kansas City Chiefs are back in the big dance one year after claiming a win over the 49ers in Super Bowl LIV, looking to complete rare back-to-back wins on the biggest stage the NFL can offer. Their challengers? The Tampa Bay Buccaneers — with the greatest NFL player to ever lace them up under center vying for ring №7. Tom Brady has helped the Bucs hit their straps at the right time of year, setting up a mouth-watering clash between the G.O.A.T and the kid.
Once again a new season brings with it a ‘glass-half-full’ approach for each AFL club, with all of them owning some sense of belief in their ability to hoist the cup this September. Realistically we know there are only a handful of teams that will genuinely contend for this year’s premiership, but that doesn’t mean the upcoming campaign is a lost cause for the 17 teams that fall short. Whether it be rising up the ladder, tightening the screws defensively or re-igniting an underperformer, here’s how your club can still emerge from 2021 as a winner.
Last season a new era arrived at the NBA All-Star game, with 10 players selected for the first time in their careers — the most since 2002. Fresh faces like Luka Doncic, Jayson Tatum and Trae Young earned a jersey in Chicago and another group of rising stars will have their sights set on a callup in early March. It’s hard to envision another 10 new All-Star’s being picked with such a talent-rich pool to choose from, although these players deserve to be in the conversation after their captivating seasons so far.
